The
Greater Derry Arts Council sponsors workshops, including an annual
series of workshops in theatrical lighting and sound. They have
traditionally been scheduled in January.
2007 Workshop Dates
We have tentatively reserved the following dates for our
2007 workshop series: January 5, 6, 19, 20. Additional details
will be posted soon.

These
workshops are free, but do require advance registration. Participation in
the workshops is open to anyone with an interest. The workshops also
constitute one element of the Certified
Production Staff program for the Adams Memorial Opera House.
Each year the basic lighting and sound workshops are
repeated.
Basic Sound Workshop
This workshop will introduce the concepts, practices and equipment
Typically used in theatrical sound design and production. The Material
will cover basic technology, including audio signaling standards,
microphones, mixers, outboard processing equipment, amplifiers and
speakers. The morning session will be a lecture with examples, and the
afternoon session will be a practical lab exercise.

Basic Lighting Workshop
This workshop will introduce the concepts, practices and equipment
Typically used in theatrical lighting design and production. The
material will cover basic technology, including types of lamps and
lighting instruments, dimming and control systems, cabling and power
distribution and basic elements of execution, such as hanging and
focusing lights. The morning session will be a lecture with examples,
and the afternoon session will be a practical lab exercise.
