"Little Shop of Horrors" opened Off-Broadway in 1982, the same year the MADCo was started. The musical by composer Alan Menken and writer Howard Ashman (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) is about a nerdy florist shop worker who raises a plant that feeds on human blood. The musical is based on the low-budget 1960 film The Little Shop of Horrors, directed by Roger Corman. Menken's musical score is written in the style of 1960's rock and roll, doo-wop and early Motown and includes several show-stopping numbers including "Skid Row (Downtown)," "Somewhere That's Green," and "Suddenly Seymour," as well as the title song.

A detailed plot synopsis can be found on the Music Theatre International web site.
